Description

Turnbridge has spent the last 12 years forging its reputation as a national leader in addiction treatment for young men and young women suffering from addiction and co-occuring disorders.

While in treatment, Turnbridge clients resume the pursuit of age-appropriate developmental milestones, re-launching on their journey toward autonomy and self-sufficiency.  Our clients are afforded the opportunity to apply the skills they are learning through Turning Point’s linkages with academic institutions, vocational placements, and enriching volunteer opportunities.   Our 1:1 direct care staff-to-client ratio provides the safety, structure, and support needed to facilitate these key opportunities for growth.

Turning Point has a very large reputation in the New Haven area. While the rep is large, it isn't necessarily good. With a high rate of relapse after discharge and during the patients stay, I can't help but wonder what is was exactly that lead so many people into this. I kept my ears open for a while and I believe that I may have figured out exactly what the problem is. As Turning Point has expanded in the past few years, they seem to have lost their touch with what it takes to help someone to succeed in sobriety. They almost seem to have gotten too comfortable in the "revolving door" mindset where people are coming and going so fast that they don't feel like they need to interact very much with the patients much at all. Young men that go through the program often feel that they have no way to take control of their own lives afterward because they have gotten so used to letting everyone do everything for them for a year. On the bright side of this review, the food in the first two phases of the program is fantastic!

After many years going back and forth to different schools, treatment centers, and detoxes, I came to Turning Point because I saw that there was a music studio on the campus. I quickly found out that Turning Point had much more than that to offer me. During my stay at Turning Point, the staff were able to see me fall and help me get back up again. Looking back on my stay, I realized it was about much more than putting down the drugs, I was able to acquire the skills to live a successful life with the guidance of some of the best people i know. I can genuinely say that Turning Point did not save my life, but gave me the opportunity to save my own. I have been sober ever since, and my relationships with my family and friends have been better than they ever were before. I will always consider Turning Point my second home and the staff their my family.

Turning Point ending up being where I got sober after several unsuccessful treatment attempts. It's an approach that just makes sense. In the past I would go directly from a 30-day program to home or a sober house, always picking up drugs a few short weeks later. At Turning Point, I had the opportunity to gradually begin the process of finding work, re-enrolling in college classes, etc. while continuing to work closely with my counselors. It was also the first place I've ever been that was specifically for young men. I learned the value of physical exercise and the importance of having sober friends. I am incredibly grateful for the experience at had at Turning Point.
