Sun Valley is a resort city in Blaine County, Idaho. A portion of its tiny population is dealing with alcohol use disorder. People with alcohol use disorder, or AUD, struggle to quit drinking alcohol. When they try to quit abruptly, they often suffer from withdrawal symptoms and frustrating cravings. The symptoms of alcohol withdrawal can be mild or serious depending on how much and for how long an individual drinks. Some of the most common mild alcohol withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, headache, sweating, shaky hands, and nausea. Mild symptoms can show up in an individual as quickly as six hours after they are finished drinking. More serious symptoms such as hallucinations, Delirium tremens (DTs), and seizures, start showing up from about twelve to twenty-four hours after the final drink. DTs is a rapid onset of confusion that usually occurs two to three days after drinking and can last for two to three days. It is a severe and rare alcohol withdrawal symptom that occurs in about five percent of people.
