A Grand Junction nonprofit recently hosted a Halloween pumpkin carving event for Colorado’s sober community.
The festivities were sponsored by Better Days Colorado and were designed to offer a free and fun Halloween gathering for those in recovery, offering a unique opportunity for peers and families to celebrate the season in a drug and alcohol free environment.
Sober Celebrations with Better Days Colorado
Better Days Colorado is a nonprofit organization that supports sobriety by hosting fun events for the community. They advocate for wellness across Colorado communities, support recovery from drugs and alcohol for all individuals, and actively strive to create powerful change.
Every event hosted by Better Days Colorado is drug and alcohol free and inspires community members to come together and support one another. Events may include social activities like trying out a new hobby, game nights, live music, and connecting with fellow community members.
A Fun and Spooky Pumpkin Carving Night
Last week, to gear up for the upcoming Halloween holiday, Better Days Colorado held a free pumpkin carving night at the Center for Independence in Grand Junction. Family members were invited to tag along and express their creativity.
A community member made a generous donation of forty pumpkins to Better Days Colorado which brought this event to light. The event also had Halloween themed sweatshirts and candles available to purchase to get in the holiday spirit.
The Importance of Sober Community
Christopher Vigil, the organizer of the event spoke on the importance of holding these types of events in the community to encourage sobriety.
“It gives people something to do on a Friday night where they don’t have to go to a bar,” Vigil said.
Not only can community members find a fun, alternative outlet but they can bring their loved ones along.
“They don’t have to go somewhere that has alcohol, that has a beer tent, because we know alcohol fuels a lot of the stuff,” he explained.
While alcohol may fuel many public events, Better Days Colorado can bring enjoyable events that are both fun and supportive of sobriety.
