Types of AA Meetings
Dual Diagnosis: Dual diagnosis refers to mental and behavioral health disorders that may influence an individual's alcohol use disorder. Select AA groups or events might offer clinical insight into how underlying psychological issues may impact members’ recovery.
LGBTQ: Selected AA chapters focus on providing a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, and generally welcome LGBTQ+ allies. These groups prioritize members’ recovery and sobriety within a non-heteronormative context.
Open: Open AA meetings in Ohio do not restrict attendance to AA members only. Instead, anyone from the community is welcome to attend and learn more about how AA operates and what the 12 step recovery model includes. This includes alcoholics as well as their friends, relatives, and loved ones.
Women: Ohio women’s AA meetings are group support meetings for women who are impacted by alcohol addiction. Open to all women in the community, including women with alcoholism and those who have loved ones with alcohol addiction, these meetings are free to attend and offer community support alongside a 12-step recovery curriculum.
