Big Book: In Massachusetts, clients in AA programs frequently discuss the Big Book. This collection of stories about women and men who overcame alcohol use disorder is used to inspire clients.
Child-Friendly: Child-friendly AA meetings allow each member to bring up to one child to the meeting, with the expectation that the discussion will not feature experiences or language that are inappropriate for the child. Formal childcare may not be available, but the member can watch over her child while participating in the discussion.
Open: Open AA meetings in Massachusetts are available to anyone interested in the AA program of alcoholism recovery. Attendees will learn more about how AA works and what the 12 step model entails. Individuals seeking help for alcohol addiction can attend, as well as friends and loved ones who want to support their recovery journey.
Wheelchair Access: AA meetings in Massachusetts may include an open floor plan for full wheelchair access. Non-ambulatory clients may also have access to ramps and designated parking spaces.
Wheelchair-Accessible Bathroom: Selected AA centers offer wheelchair-accessible bathrooms for participants. These bathrooms have enough space for a wheelchair to safely navigate, and can include private stalls with guardrails, reachable toilet paper and seat cover dispensers, a wash basin, and other amenities.
