Child-Friendly: Child-friendly AA meetings allow each member to bring up to one child to the meeting, with the expectation that the discussion will not feature experiences or language that are inappropriate for the
child. Formal childcare may not be available, but the member can watch over her child while participating in the discussion.
Discussion: AA discussion meetings in Rhode Island allow members to focus their conversation around one central theme related to alcohol addiction and recovery. Leaders will normally open the meeting with their own reflections, often referencing a related AA text, such as the Big Book. Then, others can provide inputs as they feel led.
Open: In Rhode Island, open AA meetings allow both members and observers to attend. This includes individuals seeking help for alcohol addiction as well as anyone who wants to understand more about AA and its recovery program. Members can share their stories while observers are free to listen and learn.
