Types of AA Meetings
Open: In Rhode Island, open AA meetings allow both members and observers to attend. This includes individuals seeking help for alcohol addiction as well as anyone who wants to understand more about AA and its recovery program. Members can share their stories while observers are free to listen and learn.
Step Meeting: Rhode Island AA groups use step meetings within the 12 Step Program process. Clients discuss how their experience matches the steps as discussed in AA literature and make suggestions on how to improve their resilience for the next meeting.
Wheelchair Access: Rhode Island’s AA centers may have wheelchair access for non-ambulatory clients. Exterior features include ramps and designated parking, while the facility may have an open layout for meeting halls, restrooms, and amenities.
Wheelchair-Accessible Bathroom: Selected AA centers offer wheelchair-accessible bathrooms for participants. These bathrooms have enough space for a wheelchair to safely navigate, and can include private stalls with guardrails, reachable toilet paper and seat cover dispensers, a wash basin, and other amenities.
Women: Rhode Island women’s AA meetings are group meetings for women who are impacted by alcoholism - those who are suffering from alcohol addiction and those who have loved ones with alcohol addiction. Welcoming women of all ages in the community, these meetings follow a 12-step recovery program and are free to attend.
