Bellmore is another hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) that is located in Nassau County, New York State. Bellmore lies along the South Shore of Long Island and serves as a Suburb of New York City on this Island. This hamlet has seen a surge in the number of inhabitants who have alcohol use disorders. In a swift response, Alcoholics Anonymous has organized AA meetings in Bellmore to cater for the needs of individuals with alcohol dependence. AA meetings in Bellmore are part of NY AA meetings which happen in designated locations across the state. Since this program’s inception in 1935, Alcoholics Anonymous has helped many individuals quit problem drinking. NY AA meetings are essentially peer support systems that seek to address the needs of members with alcohol use disorders. They encourage their members to desist from alcohol use, share their experiences with alcohol voluntarily and participate actively in group activities. In this way, members of AA meetings in Bellport benefit from the experiences of their mentors and help others learn from theirs. Options available are similar to those of other NY AA meetings and include open meetings, closed meetings, gender-specific meetings, Big Book meetings, discussion meetings, speaker meetings and workshops. Alcoholics Anonymous included virtual meetings recently for members who cannot participate physically in their meetings.
