Karen Allen has 20 years of experience as a rehab MSW working with individuals with disabilities including spinal cord injury and head injury. As her career progressed, she became very interested in the intersection of substance use and accidental injuries – often with life-altering effects. Later on, as the field of trauma-informed practice evolved, she began to see this as the connecting thread between early childhood trauma and later teen/adult trauma and substance use disorders.
