Types of AA Meetings

Child-Friendly: Child-friendly AA meetings allow each member to bring up to one child to the meeting, with the expectation that the discussion will not feature experiences or language that are inappropriate for the child. Formal childcare may not be available, but the member can watch over her child while participating in the discussion.

Hybrid: Hybrid AA meetings are discussions that are simultaneously virtual and in-person. One in-person participant is generally responsible for monitoring the virtual platform, including the chat room and hands raised, and making sure that online members have a chance to participate.

Open: In Illinois, open AA meetings are available to anyone who wants to learn more about the organization and its 12 step model of recovery. Attendees can include individuals currently seeking treatment for alcohol use disorder as well as friends, relatives, and loved ones of someone battling this addiction.

Wheelchair Access: In Illinois, AA meetings with wheelchair access generally have ramps and designated parking spots. Clients can safely navigate the facility’s layout and amenities to participate in their meetings.
