Types of AA Meetings
Big Book: AA meetings in Maine often use the Big Book to spark discussions. This anthology, about real women and men who overcame alcohol use disorder, is used to inspire clients.
Daily Reflections: Daily Reflections is an AA text that compiles insight, experience, and encouragement from various members. Selected contents may be topics of discussions in AA meetings. Members can also adapt reflections into their daily activities.
Discussion: In Maine, AA discussion meetings are based around a central theme. Once the leader opens the meeting using the group’s chosen format, they will share the meeting’s topic, which normally derives from an AA text, such as the Big Book. After the leader shares a personal reflection, others can join and share their insights.
Men: Maine AA centers provide 12 Step Programs for members who are impacted by alcohol use disorder at no cost. Select meetings may be designated specifically for men, and men of all ages may participate to discuss their health and recovery.
Speaker: Maine AA centers frequently invite speakers to motivate their listeners to strengthen their resolve against alcohol. Speakers get their points across through humor, faith, charm, and raw emotions.
