Types of AA Meetings

Closed: In Iowa, closed AA meetings are accessible only to members and individuals seeking help for a drinking problem. They are not open to the general public. This provides a safe, confidential space for participants to share about their alcohol addictions and journeys to sobriety.

Step Meeting: Iowa AA chapters often feature step programs for members. Here, participants talk about their progress in accordance with the 12 Step Program, and they discuss ways to improve their goals for the next meeting.

Wheelchair Access: Wheelchair access for Iowa AA centers generally include ramps and designated parking spots. Non-ambulatory clients can safely navigate throughout the center for meetings and amenities.

Women: Iowa AA meetings for women are peer support meetings for women who are affected by alcohol addiction, including those who are addicted to alcohol and those who have loved ones with alcohol addiction. Held at various community locations, these meetings use a 12-step addiction recovery curriculum and are free to attend.
