Alcohol use disorder, or AUD for short, a medical illness in which a person finds it rather difficult to control their alcohol intake. AUD has many risk factors that add up to cause it. If someone has a mental illness such as depression or anxiety, they can be at risk of being diagnosed with AUD, as they may try to self-medicate by drinking alcohol.
