Many communities across the United States large and small are filled with people who are struggling with some sort of drinking problem even the serene Cypress Gardens. The former botanical garden and theme park near Winter Haven, Florida, has a history of alcohol addiction. Florida’s first commercial tourist theme park has Alcoholics Anonymous meeting points in place offering support to its residents who have a dependency on alcohol. Alcoholics Anonymous was designed to help people with drinking problems overcome the debilitating disease and gain long-term sobriety. Alcoholics Anonymous has been giving much-needed encouragement, advice, and inspiration to millions of people with drinking disorders since the 1930s. It has become the gold standard for group support therapies with a plethora of addiction and compulsive behavior treatment services such as Debtors Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous emulating it. Its popular 12 Steps/Traditions paradigm is one of the oldest models of alcohol therapy. The 12 Steps are primarily focused on biblical values that encourage its members to aspire for spiritual growth through prayer and meditation. However, while the 12 Steps/Traditions approach applies to God AA does not impose faith beliefs or values on its members or participants.
