Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a spiritual 12-Step program. AA members help each other (particularly newcomers) by sharing their experience, strength, and hope. AA sponsorship might be of interest if you or a loved one who needs help with alcohol use disorder (including alcohol addiction). A sponsor is a mentor of sorts who works on a 1:1 basis with newcomers to teach them how to work the Steps. Those in the group who are available as temporary sponsors are often announced before or after the meetings. Once a temporary sponsor is assigned, you can take your time in searching for an experienced group member you connect with who can serve as your permanent sponsor. A sponsor provides support, helping the sponsee apply each of the 12 Steps daily. Sponsorship serves as the foundation of AA. The AA founders discovered early on that to stay sober, they had to help others in their struggle to get sober. If you are searching for a structured alcohol treatment program (such as an inpatient or outpatient rehab), call our helpline today.
