Yorkville, Illinois AA Meetings
Yorkville (the United City of Yorkville) is a city and county seat in Kendall County. AA meetings in Yorkville may interest those living or working in the local area with alcohol use disorder. Our online database of AA meetings Illinois is an inclusive meeting directory with various Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings.
Each AA group has its unique characteristics, but there are similarities in how they run their meetings. Meetings are facilitated by a chairperson or group secretary. The Serenity Prayer is recited at the beginning of an AA meeting. After the group is opened with the Serentiy Prayer, several passages from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous (the main text of AA) are read. AA meetings also include readings from the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and other AA-approved literature. Depending on the group’s format, a discussion, a speaker’s story, or more readings might follow the readings. The 7th Tradition basket is passed, and group members can choose to donate. As a self-supporting organization, AA has no outside funding. AA contributions cover the rental of meeting spaces, refreshments (such as coffee or snacks served after a meeting), as well as the purchase of AA-approved literature. Medallions are awarded to commemorate one or more members’ period of sobriety. The meeting will conclude with an announcement of experienced group members who have volunteered for AA sponsorship. AA sponsors help newcomers to work the 12 Steps. The group facilitator will close the meeting; group members and participants are invited to join in closing the meeting with a prayer (such as the 3rd Step Prayer).
