AA Oregon is part of a fellowship known as Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) which is a fellowship of millions of individuals all over the world that have been affected with Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD) and have banded together to help each other or any other person who thinks alcohol has negatively influenced his or her life find satisfying ways to live that are free from alcohol. Members of this community believe that willpower alone has not been able to help them stay away from alcohol. They also state that the uncontrollable use of alcohol is a progressive illness but can be overcome. They aim to be abstinent from alcohol because they believe that a person cannot return to becoming a normal social drinker once they have become a compulsive drinker. To help members, the twelve steps and traditions found in their governing book are used to guide the recovery process which is a lifetime of incorporating these principles into the daily life of the patient.
