Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a condition where people consume alcohol compulsively despite its negative effects. People are diagnosed with AUD by reaching two or three of 11 conditions for a span of one year according to the American Psychiatric Association. Daily binge drinking, interpersonal issues, social pressure, poor self-esteem, multiple forms of violence, and easy access to alcohol are all causes for AUD.
