Berea, Kentucky AA Meetings
Best known for its art festivals, historic restaurants, and buildings, Berea is a home rule-class city in Madison County, Kentucky. The town also has a history of alcohol addiction. Berea has put in place Alcoholics Anonymous meeting locations to help members of its community who struggle with alcohol dependence. Founded by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith in 1935, Alcoholics Anonymous began as a community-based fellowship with the purpose of encouraging other people to overcome alcohol addiction. The men, who both fully recovered from alcohol addiction themselves, developed the ‘Twelve Steps’ program to govern the membership aspect of AA, as well as AA meetings. They later introduced the ‘Twelve Traditions’ to help further define the group’s purpose. The original steps are still intact to this day and have been widely emulated by many other group support organizations who have taken inspiration from the program and incorporated them into their own guidelines. Many people who overcame alcohol addiction credit AA and its ‘Twelve Steps’ with helping them achieve long-lasting sobriety. You could join the long list by attending AA meetings in your area.
