Eastern, West Virginia AA Meetings
Eastern is a city in Berkeley and Jefferson counties, in West Virginia. If you have been court-ordered to attend West Virginia Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and live in Berkeley or Jefferson County, our online directory of AA meetings in Eastern may help you stay in compliance. When a judge orders mandatory participation in an addiction recovery program—such as Alcoholics Anonymous—a document called a “court slip” or “card” is issued for recording AA attendance. You must get the court slip signed each time you attend an AA meeting.
Each AA group differs on its policy regarding who can sign a court slip. Some groups acknowledge your AA attendance with a signature by a group officer (like the group secretary). Other groups allow any member who wishes to sign court slips to do so. One of the problems with getting an AA member’s signature is that the person is attesting to their presence at the AA meeting by signing the court slip. These slips go back to the courts, allowing people outside of AA to read the signature, violating AA’s strict policy of anonymity. Anonymity is considered the foundation of the AA program, as stated in AA’s 12th Tradition. So, it’s easy to understand why AA groups do not mandate that any member must provide a signature.
