The individuals have decided to take that first step towards the road to sobriety. Since it is an addiction it might be hard for individuals to stop drinking on their own seeking outside help is always recommended. Recommended treatments for AUD besides attending AA meetings include visiting a psychological counselor, going through a medically managed detox or withdrawal process and taking medications. Symptoms exhibited by people with AUD include constantly getting a strong craving to drink, not being able to control the amount you drink and trying but failing at stopping the use of alcohol.
