Gardiner, Maine AA Meetings
Gardiner is a town in Maine’s Kennebec County region and is a popular tourist destination. For the local community, there are several AA meetings in Gardiner supporting its individuals with alcohol use disorder. AA meetings in Maine, as they are practically everywhere else, are synonymous with 12-step meetings. While this is a bit of a misnomer as not all meetings are 12-step based, the fact is the 12 steps play a huge role in most AA meetings. The 12 Steps of AA are an informal guide to recovery from alcohol use disorder. The language around the 12 Steps is highly spiritual, but AA is not affiliated with any religion and members who do not believe in a specific religion are encouraged to substitute “God” for a higher power outside of themselves. The first step involves the individual admitting that they have alcohol use disorder. This can be accomplished by speaking at a meeting, working with a counselor or therapist, and truthfully telling somebody when the urge to drink arises. The second step is where spirituality first explicitly enters the 12 steps. Individuals must keep an open mind and understand that they must look outside of themselves and to a higher power for the help and support they need in recovery. This is just a short introduction to the 12 Steps of AA. You can learn more by attending AA meetings in Gardiner. For help finding formal rehab options, contact our specialists.
