Amana, Iowa AA Meetings
Amana is one of seven villages in east-central Iowa, collectively called the Amana Colonies; the villages, designated as National Historic Landmark, are located in Iowa County. Those living in or near the villages with alcohol addiction may want to find AA meetings in Amana. Our convenient online database, which is updated regularly, lists several AA meetings in Iowa (such as those in Amana). If you are a newcomer to the program of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), you probably have questions about the meetings. Although each AA group across the country has the freedom to be autonomous regarding format and other matters, there are some commonalities. Usually, in discussion groups, the group leader (also called the “group chair”) opens the meetings, introduces speakers, and facilitates group discussions. The literature used at meetings must be AA-approved. The group leader (or chair) opens the discussion and selects the topic of discussion from literature such as The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, Daily Reflections from the AA Grapevine, or As Bill Sees It. Speaker meetings are considered open meetings (meaning that anyone can attend). During a speaker meeting, a group member is preselected to share their recovery story with the group. Depending on the group consciousness (a process that employs all group members before making decisions), speakers may be required to have specific minimal sobriety time.
